Finish each day (time period, session or season) and be done (with it), Tomorrow (the next moment, any moment) is a new day (is a new moment)

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

'He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.' - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind... let it be something good." - Mac Anderson

"Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one." - Brad Paisley

"Each new day is a blank page in the diary of your life." - Douglas Pagels

Let us, then, be up and doing,

   With a heart for any fate;

Still achieving, still pursuing,

Learn to labor and to wait.

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Managing Life Transitions, The Chambered Nautilus (Poem)

Christine Hong: The Art of Managing Life's Transitions (Stanford Graduate School of Business, YouTube)

Build thee more stately mansions, O my soul,
As the swift seasons roll!
Leave thy low-vaulted past!
Let each new temple, nobler than the last,
Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast,
Till thou at length art free,
Leaving thine outgrown shell by life’s unresting sea!

The only real voyage consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes; in seeing the universe through the eyes of another, one hundred others-in seeing the hundred universes that each of them sees.

Marcel Proust, translated by Kiyotesong - Author: Rob Brezsny

If you look at today through the eyes of the past, you can never see what the present moment has to offer. - Author: Bryant McGill

If a person continues to see only giants, it means he is still seeing the world through the eyes of a child. I have a feeling that man's fear of woman comes from having first seen her as the mother, creator of men. - Author: Anais Nin

Seeing the world through the eyes of a child is the purest joy that anyone can experience. - Author: Constance Zimmer

I could meet dreadful people and end up seeing the world through their eyes, seeing their frailties, their needs. - Author: V.S. Naipaul

I had a lot of time on my hands and so I fell into the world of books. I read and read and read some more. I read every single thing that I could lay my hands on - even if authors were not well known or famous. I began seeing the world through their eyes. - Author: Preeti Shenoy

Everything that you see before you with your physical eyes is an illusion. In other words, you are not seeing correctly. Life is made up of light. But if you are only looking through the senses, it seems solid and physical. - Author: Frederick Lenz

#Reading - #Book - #Article; #Writing - it -down; #Getting-#Published

Why read (a book, an article)? (Engage in, devote time and effort to [read]) Write (it down)? Get (it) published?

Poh-Sun Goh

24 October 2021, 0259am, Singapore Time

A book is (more than a) collection of words. On a theme. A topic(s). An article, the pages and chapters in a book, and the book represent the outcome of sustained effort. Applied over time. Reflecting experience, (and data) over significant time. Reading is a shortcut to gain access to this material. To sample, skim, taste. Do a deep dive (into). Slowly. Coming back to, and reflecting on the material. Taking note of, and making notes on. What resonates personally. Is useful. To apply, build upon. A book, or collection of essays gives access to thinkers, and practitioners in a field. Their individual and collective insight(s), and experience.

Choose to read what is relevant, useful, challenging. To explore, and expand thinking. Perspective. Possibilities. Personal practice(s).

#CoachingPractice(s) - #Balancing-#Listening-with-#Speaking-(#Observations, #Questions, #Shall-we-try-#Suggestions)

Finding balance in Coaching, between listening, and speaking

Poh-Sun Goh

23 October 2021, 0945am, Singapore Time

As coach, embody the idea of 'being' the really close 'best' friend, the 'trusted' counsellor.

Be present. For the coachee. To listen, and really hear what is being said. To observe without judgement.

If coachee (person being coached) is moving toward personal insight, 'aha' moments, continue to just be present, observe, listen.

Occasionally encourage, gently explore further.

If necessary, e.g. with circular, spiralling narratives, try ontological shifting, by 'noticing' one element of what was said, by exploring emotion. Practicing a somatic shift or exercise. Taking a pause. And a breath.

- Engagement, Energy and (En)Light(en)

Poh-Sun Goh, 22 October 0548am, Singapore Time

Engagement (#Will, before #Skill. #Motivation)

- coachee (one being coached) wants (more), spend more (time), come back for more

- coaches want more, spend more (than) allocated time, come back for more

Energy (#Will, before #Skill. #Motivation)

- see, feel, and have both quantitative and qualitative metrics

- see and feel how coachees and coaches show up, and sustainably keep doing so

(En)Light(en) (#Skill, #Insight, #Feel)

- coachee (one being coached) feels supported

- show up better (coaches assess each of their students before and after on simple 1-5 scale/s)

    - improved awareness, understanding, 'see' and able to 'observe' more, with wider perspective (both oneself, and others)

    - improved, more positive impact externally, on social networks, and environment

- global coachee cohort ‘happiness’ or overall satisfaction scale higher that previously before coaching program implemented

- less cohort global mental health issues, less unhappiness, reduced social friction issues (self and others)

#Why-#Coaching #Coach #BeCoached #Benefits - #Coachee, #Coach, #Profession, #Organisation, #Society

#Why-before-#What-and-#How

#Why - #beCoached, #CoachSomeone

What are the #Benefits? For the person being coached, the #Coachee, the #Coach. What is the #Value (of Coaching) and (its) #Impact on the #Profession, #Organisation and #Society at large?

Poh-Sun Goh

"Simply put, we pay attention to, engage with, do, and come back for more of - what is useful, is of value, and adds value.

The 'ontological' coaching program, process, and insights from this has been transformative - for the coaches, and from what we 'see', 'observe', and 'feel' from our coachees. And from what they tell us - from their responses, feedback, and actions.

(By) Coming back for more. Doing more. (Voluntarily spending) More time. More effort. Going deeper.

(Through process) Changing for the better. Mentally, Somatically, and Emotionally.

A profession, organisation and society at large is composed of its members, practitioners and 'citizens'. The more each feels supported, is more aware, better trained, including by and through coaching (both others, and by undergoing inner work), iteratively and cumulatively will have incrementally increased network effects rippling through the profession, organisation, and society at large." - Poh-Sun Goh, 18 October 2021, 0635am, Singapore Time

- Seven ideas to sustain, and thrive in Life, and Living

Poh-Sun Goh

16 October 2021, 0738am, Singapore Time

1. Health - physical, mental, emotional and 'spiritual'/'meaning' - become, and stay healthy; sleep, water/nutrition, rest and renewal, effort and exercise, learning and growth, 'work', leisure, meaning and value(d), giving back and paying forward, service

2. Energy - acquire, manage, conserve, renew, build energy stores, resources, fund(s)

3. Time - deep understanding of its use, rhythms, cycles, of rest, renewal, work, leisure

allowing (you/I to)

4. Skill(s) up, acquire Skills

5. Role(s), Relationships, Networks and Platforms

to

6. (add) Value, and (find) Meaning

in and within

7. Relationships, personal (including with yourself/myself) and family, people you are/I am close to

#Thriving, #Meaning, #Purpose - #SkillUp and #Connect, through #Networks and #Technology
3 foundation pillars (health, $/captured energy/resources/will), time) support expression of 2 pillars (skills interplay with roles) - skills built up from education, training and with some coaching, amplified through networks and technology; producing a meaningful purpose driven satisfying life, the apex pillar. To thrive (not just survive). In our human evolution from hunting, gathering through farming, factories, workshops and design studios.

“Dad, you claim I’m no genius. I won’t argue with that. You know plenty of people who are smarter than I am.”  ...  But let me tell you something. I’m going to grow up to love my work as much as you love yours. I won’t just have a job; I’ll have a calling. I’ll challenge myself every day. When I get knocked down, I’ll get back up. I may not be the smartest person in the room, but I’ll strive to be the grittiest.” - Angela Duckworth, in 'Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance'

Subtract - to Scale, amplify with networks and platforms, both human and through technology

Subtract - to Sustain (effort), by lightening load, increase time available (focused, and dissipated less), increase resources applied to effort (from other areas - applied 80/20)

#Reality-#Meaning-is-#Personal-#Occurs-in-the-#Brain/#Mind

Sense making, meaning making, occurs at an individual, personal level, in each one of our minds.

We see 'with' our mind, our brain. Observe, hear and listen, and feel, with our mind, our brain (as well as 'our heart', extended nervous system) and body, somatically.

External reality is a mental construct, of our minds, and brains.

Coloured and filtered by our genetic endowment, environment, schooling, education, training, life experience, reading, reflection, training, (and) shared social conversations. ( and coaching ... with major implications for our roles as observers, listeners, teachers, educators, guides, trainers and coaches ).

#Reflections-on-the-#Path #(Self)Coaching

#Reflections on the #Path

Each, and everyone of us looks at life, an experience, every experience from a different vantage point. A different perspective.

Each of us, after each step on our individual, unique life journey sees things differently. From a different vantage point.

Especially with deliberate and intentional reflection during, and after each step. Each experience.

Informed by education, reading, training, being guided. Coached. Undertaking a (self) coaching process.

How are you? (Am I?) Now. Here. At present. During each moment. Each step. Between each moment. Each step. During pauses. Breaks (both physical, and metaphorical).

One('s) life, one('s own) path(s) - Poh-Sun Goh, 11 October 2021, 0248am, Singapore Time

We all have different starting points, carry different 'baggage', have different capacities and start with different capabilities, with what we were born with - at birth (genetic endowment), shaped by our upbringing, and environment (nature and nurture), initially for and to us, later and increasingly 'by us' through unconscious choices and (through awareness, observation, education, training, experience and coaching) intentional ones (choices). True comparative assessment (of progress) is with, and by oneself. Comparing our current step, with our previous one(s). Taking each cumulative step one (deliberately, with awareness) one at a time. Throughout our life. Living in, enjoying, and savouring each and every moment.  - Poh-Sun Goh, 11 October 2021, 0255am, Singapore Time

“Market matters most; neither a stellar team nor fantastic product will redeem a bad market. Markets that don’t exist don’t care how smart you are.” - Marc Andreesen, venture capitalist and founder of Netscape

“…because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. "掬水月在手 Scooping the water, the moon is in my hand" ... And apparently one other interpretation of first line of poem - from Tang poet Yu Liangshi - "the light of wisdom falls everywhere but becomes yours only when you reach for it."

above quote in https://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/reaching-out-to-hold-the-moon-in-your-hands-0

"The full moon is a symbol of enlightenment, and the moonlight likened to Buddhism" ... "If you can enjoy the things around you and feel the beauty your life will be enriched".

"The moon which you can't always catch with your hands because it is in the sky high and far away, but if you scoop the water by hand, the moon is reflected in the water in your hands.

It means that there is a consequence if there is a cause, so you can't get any results just in inaction.

Then, unless you pick flowers and scoop water by hand, the fragrance of flowers doesn't move to you, and the moon can't also be seen in your hands.

#Coaching - #Space(s) - #InPartnershipWithClient

“The coach lives in the space, the stillness, the void between the words, emotions and body expressions of the client.

Without the space(s) between the letters (in this sentence), the letters and words are not ‘seen’.”

Coaching is … a process

… a path

… a journey

… a … dance

the Client ‘owns’ the goal …

the Coach …. ‘the process’ … to hold the space, to give space …. really listen and ‘see’ the (one) client … who the client is, and wants to be(come)

and … nudge, guide … and if necessary … actively (performance) coach

suggest an exercise(s)

next steps

to try   … explore

in conversations … reflection(s)

together

‘Shall ….. we …… (“dance”?) proceed?’
